Featuring U-Wah Solutions - Rajendra Rao

“Wah” an expression of appreciation lies at the heart of creative agency U-Wah Solutions. Rajendra Rao, founder of U-Wah Solutions first had his moment of creative clarity five years ago while working on a project to launch an advertising company and create ad campaigns. Following a diverse career of 10 years, Rao founded his agency in 2011 and the rest as they say is history. We chat with his about the venture.

What made you start your venture?

Our initial set up was from my home; we had our website formally launched and were all set to start. Having built contacts in the previous job stints we pitched for many businesses, and in April 2012 we bagged our first deal from METSO. The CFO of METSO, saw our zeal, innovative ideas and pricing, that helped us bag our first project. The immense faith shown in us got the ball rolling for us. Since then we have done a number of projects for Infosys, Glocal Informat and many more.

What has been the key to your business’s success?

The piecemeal approach, keeping lower profit margins, low price points and high quality has been the success mantra for U-Wah Solutions. This principle helped me add many projects to my kitty. My USP was innovation accompanied by execution, execution and execution. This helped me turnaround my business, entice new customers and also retain my old customers.

What are the major challenges in your line of business and how did/do you overcome them?

In events sector, there are many vendors and you have to constantly keep your profit margin to low to bag the profit, we recently revamped our strategies and are providing a 360 degree approach to the overall events. Our plan of action for 2015 is to pitch for innovative events in different sectors. This industry is cluttered and we need to be on our toes to crack the deal. Getting projects is a challenge. As organizations already have fixed vendors so getting organizations to try services of a new vendor is a Herculean task. However, our unique selling proposition is to provide tailor made services and we fit the bill of our vendors as per their budget.

Do you have a mentor who guides/advices you on matters of the business?

Experience and Time has been a great mentor and guide to me.
Have you benefitted from the use of any specific technology for your regular operations?
We at U-Wah Solutions have implemented mail on the cloud, which has helped us optimize our IT spend; we extensively use Video Conferencing (VC) which has helped us trim out travel budgets; for our marketing services we use the CRM on the cloud and use analytics extensively for lead management and execution.

What strategy do you follow for Customer Satisfaction & Expansion?

The complete assistance offered from start to end during execution of a service. The user experience has thereby resulted in higher customer satisfaction and retention. Our clients have been with us over the past four years and with further mouth of marketing we have expanded our clientele.

What, according to you, are the top 3 skills needed to be a successful entrepreneur?

The vision, the focus and patience are three skills needed to be a successful entrepreneur. I firmly believe it is purely the dire need to do something with a vision which results in successful entrepreneurs. As there are different phases during a start-up — zero cash flows, no business, no projects and this culminates in to the period of failure. But with a vision, focus and patience this temporary phase of fear fades away. One then fiercely emerges as a successful and stronger entrepreneur.
